Fashion Design Studio: Textile Design & Surface Techniques

High School CTE | CTS - Designed for Visual Learners

Number of Pages: 206 Printable 8.5 by 11 inches Pages

This is the most hands-on, project-driven unit in the series. Students explore textile design fundamentals and then move through seven surface and fiber techniques: tie-dye, batik painting, surface embellishment, jewelry design, crochet, knitting, and upcycling. Each lesson is built around a real, tactile project — the kind of class period students look forward to.

Because most of these techniques use low-cost, easy-to-source materials, this unit is a favorite for classrooms with limited budgets, and it's a natural fit for sustainability-focused programs thanks to the dedicated upcycling lesson.
